Kanchenjunga Expedition takes you to the second highest peak in Nepal: Mount Kanchenjunga at the altitude of 8586 meters. Located in eastern Nepal, at the border of Nepal and Sikkim, about 46 miles North West of Darjeeling (India), this snow-covered peak is in a very pristine region and is still being explored.
Kanchenjunga expedition is full of adventure and you are likely to find it in the bucket list of many thrill seekers on this uncovered hidden and unspoiled land of the pristine beauty of this magnificent region.
This peak was initially scaled in 1955 by a British expedition team.
Mount Kanchenjunga would be inadequate without mentioning its four peripheral and subsidiary peaks. These peaks are Kanchenjunga west also known as Yalung Kang (8505 meters), Kanchenjunga Central (88482 meters), Kanchenjunga South (8494 meters) and the last one below 8000 meters i.e. Kangbachen (7903 meters).
A team led by Douglas William Freshfield (British mountaineer and author) discovered a route of Kanchenjunga and shape which is still considered as the reliable maps of the area.
The trail of Northern Face is considered as the toughest and at the same time the safest to climb. Ascending of Kanchenjunga starts from a pleasant base camp in the landscape field at 5180 m. Next is to fasten lines up to 900 m of complicated and diverse mounting up to the North Col.
This gives the most adorable and challenging ascending to the Kanchenjunga expedition. Once generating a link to and from the North Col, we can start making three camps to the narrow Northern ridge. We then start slowly and systematically to the higher peaks with the helping hands of the Sherpa’s and additional oxygen.
The difficulty of this expedition falls in the category of technically challenging. However, the experience is very rewarding and completely worth the trouble so you won’t regret your decision.
Given that you will have to reach the height beyond 8000 meters and you will have to trek to the Kanchenjunga base camp located at 5400 meters, it would be fair to say this expedition is very strenuous. In the positive light, previous experience on climbing with some exercises, a basic level maintained fitness and preparation, you can conquer this journey.
The terrains of this expedition are rugged and you will have to trek for approximately 10 hours a day until you reach the base camp. The weather can be harsh and too extreme. Furthermore, the high altitude can be more challenging. Having said that, this is one of the extremely pleasing climbs for professional hikers.
