RARALAKE VIA DHORPATAN HUNTING RESERVE & LOWERDOLPO OVERVIEW

Beni to Rara Lake Trek via Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve trekking route is one of the longest ones in Nepal and can take a toll on your mind and body if you are not prepared well enough. But if you have enough patience, time and sturdiness this trip might be the best ever you have had in Nepal. The trip can be divided into two parts. First, you would explore the Dolpo region from Beni and next would be a trek to Rara Lake from Jumla.

The trek follows from Beni/Tatopani (Hot Spring) to Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve which is the one and only hunting reserve of Nepal where one can catch the different species of flora and fauna. Then the trail leads us to Jaljala where the peoples’ war took place and then towards Sahatara, entry of Dolpo. Moving on towards Dho-Tarap, an excursion of Mani Chorten Gompa, Landscapes where clicking pictures will be interesting and chit chat with locals will definitely give you intense pleasure. And then to Numala-Bagala Pass (5000m) where you can have an ample opportunity to get indulged with the locals and learn about their culture and traditions. Then you reach towards Phoksundo Lake, a crystal blue lake which is the deepest lake in Nepal. After the Dolpo trek, your journey leads you towards Rara Lake. On the altitude of 2990m, it mesmerizes you with its beauty and the blissful surroundings.

Dolpo used to be restricted to land and for that reason has been able to preserve its cultures and traditions from the outside world. After you fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara and thereafter reach Beni, your journey to Dolpo starting point. While on route to make your way through rhododendron, pine forest, valleys, cross rivers and get to enjoy the amazing Dhorpatan hunting reserve. You continue northwest and after several natural hot springs, you reach the Dolpo region. On this journey, you would be delighted by the serene sites of Gurja Himal, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri Himal, Shey Phoksundo Lake (Nepal’s deepest lake) and rare wildlife including the snow leopard and the Himalayan blue sheep. Most people here are Buddhist and follow Tibetan Bonpo culture. After crossing the first adventurous trail we continue our adventurous trail to Rara. By the journey end along with the pristine Rara Lake (Nepal’s largest Lake), you get to encounter species like the Red Panda, musk deer, skyline with the Humla Mountains and the Tibetan border and gorging valley with spread out greenery. You will have an opportunity to get indulged with the locals and learn about their culture and lifestyle.

Beni to Rara Lake Trek via Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve may be one of the longest ones, but it is one of the most beautiful trails that you can ever expect to be. So don’t wait further, pack your backpack and get ready for the best traveling experience.
